Doug and Sarah write of their work:
Flesh Memory is an investigation of the histories imbedded in our bodies through painting, dance, photography, and soundscape. Through this work we have explored the possible representations of physical experience. How do layers of clothing, language, technology, and skin hide and reveal these histories? Is it possible to collapse three-dimensional experience onto a two-dimensional plane, or to portray it through movement, language, or sound? Where do we begin and end? In “Flesh Memory” the body is not only the subject but also the artist. The work is a product of physical agency that starts with self-awareness and extends into observation and experience.
